LIFE IS A STAGE! That's what some person in Romeo and Juliet said, or at least how I personally remember it. I took Shakespeare: Comedies, Histories, & Hamlet this past semester and the fact that I can't remember a specific line from a very popular play speaks volume, but what can I say? I'm not built for Shakespeare.
Moving past the weird opening sentences, today I got great news. My short little play, "Last Words" got selected by the AUR (American University of Rome for future references) Dramatic Arts Club to be a part of their selection of student-written plays. They have a showcase some time in April, and students like me who won't shut up about theater and/or Broadway do acting, tech theater-ing, and directing showcase everything that they work hard for the past couple of months, and I can't wait to add this to the list of things I got to accomplish.
To yap about my play, it's about David who's struggling with the concept of someone's last words, especially when it's the last time you'll ever hear their voice again. If that made sense, great. If not, once April comes around and I do a blog about my reflection on the whole process, then and only then will I explain in full details what the play is about. For right now, just know that I'm handling it with care and that my sisters aren't dead, so this isn't an autobiography or inspired by personal events.
Nonetheless, I'm very glad and honored to have my directional debut (still weird to say) in the performing arts space, especially since I got my start in all things creative with theater as a young 8 year old kid with nothing but a big gap between my teeth and a stutter.
Words are important and they are I believe one of our greatest tools. They can be used to encourage and build someone up or they can be used tear-down or bully someone (life or death lies in the power of a person's tongue (words). Looking forward to your story that will encourage others.
